A long proud history
Previously our brigade was made up of two separate brigades. The Nyah West Urban Fire Brigade and the Nyah Rural Fire Brigade. When it was decided that there would no longer be urban and rural fire brigades within the CFA, the two brigades amalgamated as a single brigade.
Both brigades previously operated from the same building and worked together closely. So joining together was fairly seamless.
Both brigades have a long and proud history, so it was important to maintain these. If you visit the fire station you will see many photos from the past. You might even get to hear a tale or two from our long-serving members. Some things you couldn't get away with today!
We'll add more about the full history of the brigades here later. But if you'd like to visit the brigade at some time, you'll meet a good bunch of people from many walks of life who possess a wide variety of skill sets. One thing everyone has in common is that they care about the community.
Everybody is always welcome. If you are interested in joining the brigade, no matter if you can contribute a little or a lot, it's a huge help and will be appreciated.
Most members join as fire fighters, but there are other roles if you don't feel that is right for you. Any and all help goes a long way, you'll get to meet others in the local community, have social events throughout the year and be able to contribute in your local community and quite probably help protect it's people and property.
Being a member of the CFA is a very rewarding thing to do. If you're thinking about volunteering in your community, joining the local fire brigade is a great option.
